Age and experience vary
Listings range from young prospects to further-along, established horses. Each one states its actual age, experience and education level, so check the specifics of each horse rather than assuming a type.
The breeds
Several are Pura Raza Mallorquina, the island’s rare native breed. The others are CDE (Caballo de Deporte Español, the Spanish sport horse), Appaloosa or American Paint. The breed is stated on every listing.
Groundwork or started
“Groundwork and lunging” means the horse is handled and educated from the ground but not yet ridden. “Started under saddle” means backed and carrying a rider lightly. Neither skips the work of producing the horse.
Seeing them
The horses are on Mallorca. Arrange a viewing, ride the horse yourself if it is started, and have your own vet carry out a pre-purchase examination before you commit.
