After work: Leovet Cold Pack cooling gel

Leovet’s Cold Pack is a gel with arnica, rosemary, menthol and frankincense resin. According to the maker, it works in two stages: a refreshing cool first, then a soothing warmth that goes deep. Leovet presents it as a gel for the muscles, for horse and rider alike.

A cooling gel supports the routine; it does not replace the vet. If a leg is hot or swollen, or the horse is lame, the first call goes to the vet.

02

When it turns cool: NAF Warming Wash

Made for washing a horse after work on cold days. It contains ginger and sage, is mixed with water and, thanks to its low-foam formula, can stay in the coat without rinsing, according to the maker. Useful on autumn afternoons when the hose is no longer inviting.

03

Shine: Veredus Super Sheen and Dreamcoat

Veredus Super Sheen is a spray for coat, mane and tail. According to the maker, it adds shine and leaves the hair silky, soft and easy to comb for two weeks.

Carr & Day & Martin Dreamcoat is a high-gloss finishing spray with a non-slip formula; the maker says it can be used on the saddle area without leaving grease or residue, and on manes and tails before plaiting.

04

For as long as the flies stay: Leovet Tam Tam Vet

In a mild autumn, flies stay around longer. Tam Tam Vet is an insect repellent with geranium oil and eucalyptus citriodora oil as its active ingredients, without preservatives or alcohol, according to the maker. The retailer lists it as compliant with the ADMR anti-doping rules. It is a biocide: always read the label and product information before use.

The autumn routine, in short

  • After hard work: walk off, run a hand down each leg and, if you use one, apply the cooling gel.
  • Cool days: wash only what needs washing and let the horse dry out of the wind.
  • Shine: sprays on a clean, dry coat; on the saddle area, only products the maker says are suitable there.
  • Flies: repellent as the label says, for as long as they are around.
