Girth length measured?
Girths are sized buckle to buckle in cm: measure the old girth, or from the second hole on one side under the belly to the second hole on the other side.

How to choose a saddle and get it fitted
A saddle is bought for a horse and a rider together, and the horse's side is not negotiable. Tree width, panel shape and balance are set against the back in front of you, which is why the saddles in this selection are presented as starting points for a fitting, not as things to order untried. Adjustable-gullet synthetic saddles earn their popularity by tolerating a horse that changes shape through the year.
Know the vocabulary before you speak to a fitter: the tree is the frame, the gullet is the channel that must clear the spine, the panels are what actually touch the horse, and the balance point is where your seat naturally lands. A saddle that is level, clears the wither by two to three fingers, and does not bridge or rock is the goal. A pad can refine that fit, but it cannot create it.

Can I buy a saddle online?
You can, but only with a plan to have it checked on the horse, ideally with a returns window. The saddles here are chosen because they are honest starting points: adjustable, widely fitted and well documented. A saddle fitter's visit is the second half of the purchase.
Synthetic or leather?
Synthetic saddles are lighter, easier to care for in a dusty, hot yard and often cheaper, and modern versions are well made. Leather ages better and holds its value. On Mallorca the practical case for synthetic is stronger than most riders from northern Europe expect.
How often should saddle fit be checked?
Whenever the horse changes shape: after a season of work, a change in feed or turnout, a long break, or a move to a new climate. Many fitters suggest a check every six to twelve months as a baseline, and sooner if the saddle starts to slip or the horse objects to being tacked up.
