How to choose a saddle pad
A saddle pad has three honest jobs: keep sweat and dirt off the panels, add a little shock absorption, and in the case of a half pad or shimmed pad, make a small, temporary correction while a saddle is being sorted out. It cannot make a saddle that does not fit, fit. If the pad is doing structural work, the saddle needs a fitter.
Shape first, then fabric. The pad should follow the saddle's outline with a couple of centimetres to spare, sit up into the gullet so it does not press on the wither, and lie flat without wrinkling under the panels. In a hot climate a thin, breathable cotton or technical pad that washes easily earns daily use. Sheepskin and thick gel belong to specific jobs, not to July.

Can a half pad fix a saddle that slips?
It can mask the symptom for a while. A saddle that slips is usually a shape or balance problem, and a shimmed half pad is a temporary bridge while a fitter sorts it out, not the solution. Use it as such, and get the saddle checked.
Which pad for a hot climate?
Thin, breathable and easy to wash. Cotton or a wicking technical fabric, a pad with a spine channel, and a spare so one is always dry. Sheepskin has its uses under a well-fitted saddle but it is warm. Keep it for the cooler months or for specific fit reasons.
How should the pad sit under the saddle?
Pulled up into the gullet so it clears the wither and the spine, with the pad's outline showing evenly around the saddle. A pad that slides back or bunches under the panels changes the pressure pattern. Refit it before every ride and wash it before it stiffens.
