01Pura Raza Mallorquina

Black. Compact.Calm.

A breed that was nearly lost, kept as a riding horse rather than a memory.

The Pura Raza Mallorquina, or Cavall Mallorquí, is one of Spain’s rarest breeds. For centuries it was the working horse of the island, until mechanisation pushed it to the edge of extinction. Its survival now rests on a small number of breeders. Hackner Ranch breeds under the name Ganadería Ses Pastores and is home to more than fifty Mallorcan horses, the largest breeding operation for the breed in the world.

The horses are not kept as a museum. They are trained and ridden in dressage, jumping, Western riding and horsemanship, and are known for a calm, people-oriented temperament. Foals, young horses and trained riding horses leave the ranch after a visit and try-out, and the ranch also collects donations towards preserving the breed.

Prepare. Ride.Care.

Lessons are offered as private sessions for children and adults, group lessons kept to a maximum of six riders, camps for children during school holidays, and clinics with international trainers whose dates are announced on request. Prices are per person and per lesson, published on the lessons page, and differ depending on whether a school horse or a private horse is used.

Each lesson follows the same routine. Riders prepare the horse themselves, grooming and saddling, the lesson is adapted to the level of horse and rider, and afterwards the horse is cared for, cleaned and checked.

  • Children from the age of four, beginners and experienced riders alike
  • Groups of no more than six, a standard lesson lasts one hour
  • School horses are included and your own horse is welcome
  • Riding helmets are mandatory
  • Camps in the school holidays, clinic dates on request

Certified horse manager.Rider and trainer.

The ranch is run by Marion Hackner, a certified horse manager and state-certified rider and trainer with professional positions in Austria, England, Spain, the United States and other European yards behind her. In 2023 Última Hora described her as Austrian, twenty-one years on the island at that point, and the world’s largest breeder of the Mallorcan horse.

The business is registered as Ganadería Ses Pastores Centro Equestre Hackner Ranch SL, incorporated in October 2022 for riding instruction and horse breeding. At the ranch, breeding and training carry the same responsibility, and both come down to thinking long term.
