The supplement shelf is where the least evidence often meets the highest price. These four are broad-spectrum balancers, not a claim that any tub fixes a problem.

Buying advice

How to choose feed and supplements

Forage first, then a balancer if there is a gap, then nothing else unless there is a reason. That order settles most feeding questions before the supplement shelf gets involved. A horse on good hay or grazing with a low-calorie vitamin and mineral balancer is covered for the things that are commonly short. The rest of the shelf is for specific situations, and most of it is bought on reassurance.

The Mediterranean changes two things. Sweat: horses working in heat lose salt and electrolytes that plain feed does not replace, so an electrolyte for the days they genuinely sweat is one of the few supplements with a clear case. Forage: island hay varies in quality and price, so a balancer that fills mineral gaps matters more than it might in a lush northern pasture. Anything with a health claim belongs in a conversation with your vet, not a shopping basket.

Frequent questions

Questions riders ask

Does my horse need a balancer?

If it lives on forage alone, or on forage plus a small amount of hard feed below the bag's recommended rate, usually yes: a balancer supplies the vitamins and minerals that forage and small feeds do not, in a low-calorie form. A horse eating a full ration of a fortified feed generally does not need one on top.

When are electrolytes useful?

On days the horse genuinely sweats: hard work in heat, long hacks in summer, travel. They replace what is lost, not what might be lost, so feeding them daily to a horse standing in shade is not useful. Always provide free access to water and plain salt alongside.

Which supplements can I skip?

Most of them. The supplements with the clearest general case are a balancer, salt and electrolytes for sweating horses. Anything sold on a health, joint or calming claim needs an individual reason and ideally your vet's view. EquiMallorca makes no health claims about any product.
