How to choose riding clothes for a warm climate
Most of the riding-wear market is designed for northern Europe, and it shows: insulation, wind-proofing and thick fabrics that make sense in a Hamburg winter and very little sense in a Mallorca September. Here the order of priorities is grip, stretch, sun coverage and sweat management, with a genuinely waterproof shell for the wet weeks and one warm layer for the handful of cold mornings.
Buy breeches for the fabric and the seat first. A four-way stretch technical fabric with a silicone knee patch or full seat suits daily riding. A light, UPF-rated long-sleeve top does more against the sun than any amount of sunscreen and is cooler than bare arms by mid-morning. Gloves are the item riders skimp on and regret. A thin, grippy synthetic pair lasts a season and is replaced without ceremony.

Full seat or knee patch?
Knee patch for most daily riding and for a hot climate: less fabric, more airflow, easier to move in. Full seat for riders who want the extra security in the saddle, for dressage, or for green horses. Silicone grip has largely replaced suede on both.
What do I actually need for a Mallorca winter?
Less than you think and more than you have. A properly waterproof, breathable shell for the wet weeks, one warm mid-layer, a pair of winter breeches or thermal tights, and gloves that work when wet. The insulated jackets in this selection cover the cold snaps and northern trips. They are not daily wear here.
Is a long-sleeve top really cooler in summer?
A light, loose, UPF-rated long sleeve usually is, once the sun is high: it shades the skin and wicks sweat, and it removes the need to reapply sunscreen every hour in the arena. Choose a pale colour and a fabric that dries fast.
